NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - On Sunday morning, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a report of smoke coming from an apartment building on Royal Saint George Drive. The call was made at 9:15 a.m. and a squad was dispatched to the scene at 9:19 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters began their assessment and discovered an active fire in the attic area. The incident was immediately upgraded to a general alarm response, with 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel responding to the scene.
With swift action, firefighters were able to stretch hose lines to the attic and evacuate remaining residents. The fire was brought under control and declared extinguished by 9:40 a.m. However, fire personnel remained on the scene for an additional hour to work with building management and the American Red Cross in assisting displaced residents.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among residents or firefighters. However, two of the building's eight units were deemed uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Department. The estimated damage is over $20,000 and three adults have been displaced as a result of the incident.
After investigation, it was determined that the fire was accidental. The Naperville Fire Department received assistance from various departments including the Naperville Police Department, Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, Naperville Department of Transportation, Engineering and Development, and Naperville's Department of Public Utilities - Electric.
The quick response and teamwork displayed by all involved helped prevent any serious injuries or further damage to the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by authorities.
