LANCASTER, Pa. & CHICAGO - illiNews -- Nola Blue Records proudly announces the signing of Blues Music Award winner Mud Morganfield and the forthcoming release of his sixth career album on September 26, 2025. Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, Morganfield is the oldest son of McKinley Morganfield, known to the world as Muddy Waters, The Father of Chicago Blues. Despite his early childhood interest in playing the drums and later the bass, Mud Morganfield never pursued a musical career until after his father's passing. A CDL-licensed driver by trade, his transition to full-time bluesman came later in life.
Morganfield's first album, Fall Waters Fall (2008, self), was followed by Son of The Seventh Son (2012, Severn Records), which received two Blues Music Award nominations. For Pops: A Tribute to Muddy Waters (with Kim Wilson), was released in 2014 and won a Blues Music Award for Traditional Blues Album. They Call Me Mud (2018, Severn Records) followed. Now, Morganfield has returned to Joyride Studios with his long-time cadre of top Chicago players, including Rick Kreher (guitar), Mike Wheeler (guitar), E.G. McDaniel (bass), Sumito Ariyo Ariyoshi (piano), Roosevelt Purifoy (piano and organ) and Melvin "Pooky Styx" Carlisle (drums) to produce a fresh collection of 14 tunes including 12 originals.

Morganfield's signing celebration was held at FitzGerald's in Berwyn, IL on June 6, 2025 in front of an enthusiastic international audience, many of whom were in town for Chicago Blues Fest. A whiskey toast during the break was followed by the band's first public performance of two tracks from the new album: "Bring Me My Whiskey" and "Strange Woman," one of only two Muddy Waters covers on the recording.
"Mud Morganfield wields his solid understanding of both the music and the music business in powerful ways, and is a joy to work with," says Nola Blue Records president Sallie Bengtson. "At times looking and sounding so much like his late father, Mud is undeniably his own man. It is an honor to partner with him as he advances his own unique contribution to the great legacy of Chicago Blues."
"I am looking forward to working with Nola Blue Records to release this album and getting back on the road to see my friends and fans," says Morganfield. "We're all very excited about sharing the new music with the world."
