SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - illiNews -- Two venues with Mondo tracks have received "Facility of the Year" honors from the American Sports Builders Association, which annually recognizes excellence in sports construction.
The new home of Texas A&M's indoor track and field teams, the R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field facility, was named a 2024 ASBA Gold Award Indoor Track winner. This state-of-the-art venue has a 200-meter Mondo permanent banked track with 12-degree banking and Mondo's Super X 720 surface installed on the six-lane oval, eight-lane sprint straightaway, pole vault runway, two long jump/triple jump runways, and throw and warm-up areas. The facility is World Athletics Certified, enabling it to host world-class track competitions.
GEO Surfaces, based in Mooresville, North Carolina, installed the track.
The second ASBA award went to Kansas State University's new Track and Field Indoor Complex, which also is World Athletics Certified and boasts a Mondo permanent banked track with 12-degree banking and Mondo's Super X 720 surface. Named a 2024 ASBA Silver Award Indoor Track winner, the venue features a six-lane oval, an eight-lane infield sprint straightaway, two pole vault runways, two long and triple jump runways, and throw and warm-up areas with Mondo's Super X 720 surface. The competition and warm-up areas have a custom shade of purple Mondo created for the Division I university.

ASBA, of which Mondo is a member, is the national organization for builders, designers, and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities. Awards are presented each year to facilities built by ASBA members that best exemplify construction excellence. A panel of ASBA members anonymously judge entries. Projects are scored individually based on considerations such as layout and design, site work, drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, innovation, and overall impression. Winning entries' cumulative scores meet or exceed the standard.
