CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced the appointment of Dr. Cristina Pacione-Zayas as the new Chief of Staff to the Mayor. A native of Chicago, Dr. Pacione-Zayas brings with her a wealth of experience in public service, policy development, and advocacy.
Having previously served as the First Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Pacione-Zayas steps into her new role today as the first Latina chief of staff for the city. Mayor Johnson expressed his confidence in her abilities, stating that her dedication to the city and expertise in critical issues such as housing, community safety, and education make her the ideal candidate for the position.
In addition to her work with the city, Dr. Pacione-Zayas has an impressive background in state government. She has served on several key committees in the Illinois State Senate, including Early Childhood, Education, Health, and Human Rights. Her contributions to various boards and committees have been instrumental in shaping policies that support public programs and services across the state.

Her dedication to education policy, restorative justice, and community engagement is evident through her previous work with organizations such as Chicago Public Schools, Enlace Chicago, Latino Policy Forum, and Palenque LSNA. Through these partnerships, she has helped build systems and design programs that support young people, parents, and educators.
