CHICAGO ~ Chicago's Administration has expressed their support for President Joe Biden's recent actions, which offer a pathway to legal residency for spouses of U.S. citizens and a work visa program for current DACA enrollees. The Administration also extended their gratitude to community partners and advocacy groups for their ongoing efforts in promoting pro-immigration policies.
According to the Administration, strong families are the foundation of strong communities, and by taking this action, President Biden is demonstrating his belief in the importance of keeping families together. This sentiment was echoed by the Mayor of Chicago, who issued an Executive Order on the Black Reparations Agenda yesterday and will be celebrating Juneteenth tomorrow.
The Mayor emphasized that these actions align with the principles of unity set forth by former Mayor Harold Washington 40 years ago when he established Chicago as a Welcoming City. As a nation of immigrants, Chicago's immigrant and migrant communities have played a crucial role in shaping the city's working class, whether through the Great Migration or crossing the Darien Gap.

While applauding President Biden's actions, the Administration also called on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform that would provide a pathway to citizenship for millions of hard-working individuals who have been disenfranchised for far too long. They stressed that despite efforts by former President Donald Trump and Republicans to dehumanize immigrants, Americans recognize their contributions to our economy and their determination to create a better life for themselves and their families.
The Administration firmly believes that no human being is illegal and remains committed to standing united against any forces that seek to divide us. They continue to fight for justice and opportunities for all Americans, regardless of their background or immigration status.
