~ Naperville, IL - The City of Naperville's Department of Public Works Fleet Services Division has once again proven their excellence in fleet management by being named No. 6 in "The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas" ranking by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). This marks the 13th consecutive year that the City's fleet team has been recognized as one of the top 100 fleets in North and South America.
The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas program is highly regarded as a national benchmark for excellence in fleet management. It recognizes peak-performing fleet operations among all public fleets and ranks agencies based on categories such as accountability, technology utilization, financial management, staff development, and resource stewardship.
The City of Naperville's Fleet Services Division has consistently performed at or above industry standards across several key areas. Their operational efficiency boasts a direct billable hours rate of 85.6%, well within the industry target of 80-90%. They also excel in maintenance effectiveness with scheduled repairs at 85.9%, exceeding the industry benchmark of 80%. Additionally, their inventory management has reduced inventory variance to an impressive 0.44%, significantly better than the industry goal of under 3%. The division also maintains a high level of quality control with rework repairs remaining under 1%, far surpassing the industry threshold of 5%.

In addition to these achievements, the division has also demonstrated excellence through continued APWA accreditation since 2006 and strategic investments such as developing an in-house motor pool tool in collaboration with Naperville's Information Technology Department. They have also implemented a data-driven vehicle replacement plan and scoring model, as well as strategic fuel procurement that has kept expenses below OPIS benchmarks.
The division's commitment to staff development is evident through their investment in new and renewed ASE/EVT certifications and training hours. They have also implemented a step-up lead program that supports continuity of operations and succession planning.
This year, the City of Naperville has also received national recognition at the individual level. Jordan Gilbert, Heavy Equipment Technician III, was ranked in the Top 5 for NAFA Technician of the Year. Gilbert has been with Naperville's Fleet Services team for 10 years and has shown exceptional leadership skills and technical expertise. His accomplishments include interim leadership experience as Heavy Equipment Lead, a direct billable hours rate of 86.6%, and renewal of 13 of his 42 ASE & EVT certifications. He has also obtained multiple master-level certifications across fire apparatus, ambulances, and heavy vehicles.
