COLUMBIA, Md., Sept. 16, 2024 ~ The Foundation Fighting Blindness, a leading organization in the global fight against blinding diseases, is proud to announce the upcoming Chicago Night for Sight event. This highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at The Ritz-Carlton in Chicago. The purpose of this event is to raise crucial funds for groundbreaking research on treatments and cures for retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, Usher syndrome, Stargardt disease, Leber congenital amaurosis, and age-related macular degeneration.
The evening will be led by dinner co-chairs Julie and Brad Ellis, who are dedicated to bringing together corporate sponsors, community members, and supporters in the fight against blinding diseases. Guests can look forward to a gourmet dinner, an exciting silent auction featuring exclusive items, and live entertainment by world-renowned Magician and Mentalist Wes Mathison.
Since its establishment in 1971, the Foundation Fighting Blindness has raised an impressive $915 million to support research on blinding diseases. These funds have been instrumental in driving the urgent mission of finding preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, Usher syndrome, Stargardt disease, Leber congenital amaurosis, age-related macular degeneration and other retinal degenerative diseases.

According to co-chair Julie Ellis: "Thanks to the promising research funded by the Foundation Fighting Blindness, we have hope that there will be a cure for our son who is affected by Usher syndrome." This sentiment is echoed by committee member Jamie Cutler who said: "As a parent of a child impacted by a blinding disease, I am thrilled to have an organization like the Foundation Fighting Blindness leading the charge towards sight-saving treatments."
The field of vision science is currently at a pivotal moment with over 48 potential treatments currently in clinical trials.
