In the processing plant of a global brand confectionery company located in Chicago, IL.  The programmable logic controller is a single microprocessor-based device used to automate equipment operation, says Dominic Susin, President of Industrial Steam and a member of the American Boiler Manufacturers Association. The PLC was designed over 40 years ago to replace hardware-level logic used in manufacturing machinery, infrastructure and transportation control.
