CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and World Business Chicago have joined forces to host a special roundtable discussion with members of the Chicago Consular Corps (CCC) today. The event aims to express gratitude for the partnership between the city and the CCC, as well as explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Mayor Johnson emphasized the importance of global relationships in driving inclusive economic opportunity, stating, "By engaging directly with the Consular Corps, we are continuing to build a more connected, competitive, and collaborative economy."

The roundtable will bring together senior city and diplomatic leaders, including Mayor Johnson himself who will deliver opening remarks. Other notable attendees include Ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil, Dean of the Chicago Consular Corps and Consul General of Mexico; Phil Clement, President & CEO of World Business Chicago; Charles Smith, Vice Chair of World Business Chicago; Deputy Mayor Kenya Merritt; and Tamar Newberger, Chair of Chicago Sister Cities International.

Representatives from 52 foreign consulates across six continents will also be in attendance. This diverse group highlights Chicago's global reach and reputation as one of the world's most internationally connected and collaborative cities.

The discussion will focus on sharing insights from countries around the world represented by the Consular Corps. The goal is to identify ways in which Chicago can partner with and learn from international best practices in areas such as economic growth, innovation, and cultural exchange.

This event showcases Chicago's commitment to fostering international cooperation and leveraging its global network to enhance trade, investment, and cultural ties. In recognition of this partnership, Mayor Johnson will present a proclamation declaring it "Chicago Consular Corps Appreciation Day."

The CCC is made up of over 80 consulates based in Chicago. Its mission is to safeguard the interests, rights, and privileges of its members and their respective communities while promoting cooperation with local authorities, businesses, cultural organizations, and civic institutions.

Following the roundtable discussion will be a reception providing further opportunities for global engagement and partnership-building. This event serves as a testament to Chicago's dedication to promoting solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between its international partners and the local community.
