~ Naperville, IL- On June 17, 2025, an Elgin man appeared in First Appearance Court this afternoon after being charged with Attempt First Degree Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Stalking, and Misdemeanor Violation of an Order of Protection. The State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State's motion to deny pre-trial release for the accused, Rocky Ahmedyar.
According to court documents, Ahmedyar, 35 years old and residing in the 1100 block of Spring Creek Road in Elgin, allegedly attempted to murder his wife in the early hours of June 17. The victim had moved out of their family home three months ago with their three children and was staying at a residence in Naperville. At approximately 3:32 a.m., she called 911 for help.
After speaking with the victim and conducting an investigation into the matter, it is alleged that Ahmedyar approached her while she was at her car parked in the driveway. He was holding a silver Kimber 9mm handgun and threatened to shoot her if she did not talk to him. After approximately thirty minutes, Ahmedyar lowered his gun when a car drove by. The victim took this opportunity to get into her car and start reversing. However, Ahmedyar walked alongside the vehicle and fired a shot at her. Fortunately, the bullet missed her by millimeters as it went through the top right side of the driver's seat towards the passenger side.

The victim immediately called 911 while Ahmedyar fled on foot. At approximately 4:13 a.m., he was apprehended by Elgin Police Department as he pulled into his driveway in Elgin. Further investigation revealed that Ahmedyar had sent multiple threatening texts to his wife prior to this incident.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin stated, "Domestic violence is not a private family matter, it is a serious crime that if left unchecked, can escalate causing serious physical harm to the victim, up to and including death. While the victim in this case was forced to endure an extremely stressful situation allegedly at the hands of her husband, we are all extremely thankful that she was physically unharmed."
Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres also expressed his gratitude for the swift arrest of Ahmedyar and commended the teamwork between officers, detectives, and the Elgin Police Department. He added, "Domestic violence is an incredibly serious and dangerous issue that all too often escalates into violence, like what allegedly occurred in this case."

The State's Attorney's office also thanked the West Chicago and Elgin Police Departments as well as the DuPage County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit for their assistance in this case. Assistant State's Attorneys Anna Derkacz and Helen Kapas were also acknowledged for their efforts in securing strong charges against Mr. Ahmedyar.
In conclusion, this incident serves as a reminder that domestic violence should not be taken lightly and victims should seek help immediately. The authorities urge anyone experiencing domestic violence to reach out for support and assistance.
