Naperville Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on the 1200 block of East Chicago Avenue

At 9:40 p.m. on Friday (03/26/21), Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the alarm monitoring company for the activated fire alarm at the 1200 block of East Chicago Avenue. A single fire suppression unit was dispatched. The first fire suppression unit arrived on the scene at 9:44 p.m. and reported smoke showing in the first floor of a commercial strip mall. The alarm was immediately upgraded to a General alarm by Naperville 911 (PSAP). The General Alarm dispatched additional fire suppression companies which resulted in 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 fire personnel responding to the scene.

The first fire units that arrived on the scene reported that the sprinkler system was activated, a hose line was deployed to quickly extinguished the remaining fire located in the unit of the strip mall. A complete search of the building was conducted, salvage and overhaul operations were performed. An inspector from Naperville's Transportation, Engineering, and Development (TED) was also notified. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Wheaton Fire Department and the Downers Grove Fire Department assisted with station cover. There was no report of injuries to civilians or firefighters on the scene.
