NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - On Friday, May 16, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call reporting a fire at a residence on the 1800 block of Syracuse Avenue. Multiple callers confirmed the presence of a large amount of fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home.
In response to the emergency, a general alarm was dispatched, consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel. The homeowners and their pets were able to safely evacuate the building before the arrival of fire crews.
The first unit arrived on scene at 2:47 p.m. and encountered significant fire and smoke conditions at the rear of the structure. Firefighters quickly deployed multiple hose lines to contain and extinguish the blaze. However, strong winds posed a challenge to suppression efforts.
Due to the severity of the situation, at 3:20 p.m., an additional five vehicles and 14 personnel were added to the response in what is known as a "box alarm." The fire was finally brought under control and declared extinguished at 4:03 p.m. Fire personnel remained on scene for an additional 20 minutes to ensure there were no remaining hot spots.

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries to any residents, pets or firefighters. However, due to extensive damage estimated at over $300,000, Naperville's Transportation, Engineering and Development Team has deemed the building uninhabitable. As a result, two adults and two children have been displaced from their home.
The cause of this devastating blaze is still under investigation by authorities. The Naperville Fire Department received assistance from several neighboring departments including Naperville Police Department as well as Aurora, Lisle Woodridge, Darien Woodridge, Plainfield, Lockport and Oswego Fire Departments. Station coverage during this incident was provided by Wheaton, Westmont, Warrenville, Bolingbrook and Plainfield.
The community is grateful for the swift and coordinated response of all emergency personnel involved in containing this fire and ensuring the safety of those affected.
