Religious identity laws fuel global terrorism, warns Noble World Foundation in appeal to the United Nations."

CHICAGO - illiNews -- Noble World Foundation Urges UN to Declare Religious Identity Laws a Crime Against Humanity

In a powerful call to action, the Noble World Foundation has appealed to the United Nations and world leaders to recognize religious identity laws as a root cause of terrorism and to declare such laws a crime against humanity. This appeal follows the horrific terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, near Pahalgam in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, where five armed militants killed 26 civilians. The attackers reportedly singled out male tourists, asked their religion, and executed Hindu and Christian men point-blank in front of their wives—many of whom were newlywed couples. This chilling act of religiously targeted violence highlights the urgent need to confront the legal structures that enable such hatred.

Religious identity, when imposed by law, fosters division and terrorism. Pakistan's Constitution, for example, explicitly states in Articles 41 and 91 that only Muslims may serve as the President or Prime Minister. Similar constitutional mandates exist in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the Maldives. These state-imposed religious filters do not merely violate the spirit of democracy—they create a legal basis for exclusion, hate, and ultimately, violence.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN in 1948, affirms that all people are born free and equal in dignity and rights. It recognizes freedom of religion and belief as a fundamental human right. Yet, more than 25 countries still enforce religious identity requirements for their highest offices. Such laws, by definition, reduce a person's civic worth to their religion—fostering resentment and justifying extremism.

The Noble World Foundation believes that no child is born with a religion stamped on their skin. Religious identity is imposed—often by the state itself—and such imposition lies at the root of many of today's global conflicts. "To stop terrorism, we must strike at its legal roots, not just trim its branches," said Shiv R. Jhawar, founder of the organization. "Repealing religious identity laws is not just a legal reform—it is a moral imperative for global peace."

The Foundation's campaign is reaching global audiences through social media, direct appeals to governments, and calls for the United Nations to:

✅ Declare all laws enforcing religious identity a crime against humanity
✅ Urge countries with such laws to repeal them without delay
✅ Promote equal constitutional rights for all citizens, regardless of religion
