CHICAGO - illiNews -- The countdown is on for the 4th Annual Words of Wonder Literary Festival, hosted by Burst Into Books, happening on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center at Gately Park (10201 S. Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60628).

This FREE, family-centered celebration of literacy and culture brings together beloved Black authors, illustrators, educators, artists, performers, and community leaders for a day of immersive storytelling and unforgettable fun.

Festival Highlights Include:
  • Headlining Author: Kwame Alexander, New York Times bestselling and award-winning author
  • Headlining Illustrator: London Ladd, acclaimed artist and visual storyteller
  • Mainstage Duo: Lesa Cline-Ransome & James Ransome, award-winning author-illustrator team
  • Dare to Share Workshops: Interactive sessions on reading, writing, art & parenting literacy
  • Live Performances: Jesse White Tumblers, Windy City Ramblers, Raw Talent Performing Arts & more
  • Returning DJs: DJ Donnell & DJ London keeping the vibes alive all day

  • Youth & Family Area – A joyful space designed just for families! Enjoy games, sensory tools, free play, hands-on learning, storytime, giveaways, and family-centered activities for all ages.
  • Health & Wellness Area – Vendors and organizations offering mental health resources, self-care tips, and healthy living tools
  • Transitions Area – Created for families with children who need learning, physical, or sensory support. Includes calming tools like noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, and support from educators and specialists.
  • Marketplace & Vendors – Over 90 booths featuring books, art, community resources, and Chicago's best Black-owned food trucks, including Love Juice, Island Tings, Mana Gourmet Products, and Nea's Lunch Truck.
