The 15-track project, produced entirely by MAYHEM, moves through excess, dissociation, detachment, and moments of clarity.
CHICAGO - illiNews -- Chicagoland artist Chris The Wiz releases Afterglow, a 15-track album produced entirely by MAYHEM. The project moves through cloud rap and hypertrap territory with distorted low end, restless percussion, hazy melodies and dissociative atmosphere.
Mixed and mastered by Chris The Wiz himself, Afterglow moves through excess, dissociation, isolation and moments of clarity. Intoxication and escape sit alongside self-awareness, with reckless impulses and fragmented thoughts gradually giving way to more reflective moments.
Tracks like "Crackhead" and "Work In Progress" lean into chaos through loose, stream-of-consciousness performances and distorted energy, while "Dead Wrong Freestyle" and songs like "Orbit" and "Cut It" move through betrayal, unstable relationships and detachment.

MAYHEM's production ties the project together, blending heavy bass and abrasive trap drums with spacious textures and clouded melodies. The vocals and lyrics move between aggressive flexing, distorted hooks, melodic fragments and more introspective moments without fully settling into any one mode.
The final stretch shifts the atmosphere. "Still" slows things down through fading memories and recurring dreams, while the title track closes with a more open-ended sense of awareness.
Across 15 tracks, Afterglow follows the highs, the noise and the spaces in between, leaving room for moments when the intensity begins to give way to something clearer.
