~ Naperville, IL - The City of Naperville has announced that they will be accepting applications for four grant programs to fund projects in 2026. These grants include the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Special Events & Community Arts (SECA), Social Services Grants (SSG), and Opioid Remediation.
The CDBG provides funding for housing, community development, and infrastructure projects. The SECA grant supports cultural and artistic initiatives, while the SSG aids organizations that provide essential social services to residents. The Opioid Remediation grant supports efforts to combat the ongoing opioid crisis.
According to Community Grants Coordinator Miranda Barfuss, there is over $2 million in funding available through these grant programs. "This is a call to action for Naperville organizations," she stated. "Organizations can use this funding to improve our community and address important needs."

To help interested groups navigate the application process, city staff will be hosting workshops at the Naperville Municipal Center on 400 S. Eagle St. These workshops will cover eligibility, funding criteria, application processes, and submission requirements. No registration is required for these workshops.
The SECA workshops will be held on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. and Monday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m., with applicants required to attend one of the two mandatory sessions. The CDBG, SSG, and Opioid Remediation Pre-Application Workshop will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m.
Applications for SECA grants will open on Sept. 5 and are due by noon on Oct. 3. Applications for SSG and Opioid Remediation grants will open on Sept. 11 and are due by 5 p.m. on Oct. 10. CDBG applications will also open on Sept. 11 but have a later deadline of Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. Evaluation and scoring criteria will be shared at the workshops to help applicants strengthen their submissions.

Organizations are allowed to submit multiple applications for each grant program. Funding decisions for SSG, Opioid Remediation, and CDBG grants will be based on transparent scoring criteria. All grants are reimbursement-based, meaning grantees must submit a Request for Payment form with expense documentation. Grantees can choose to receive a lump sum payment or payments in increments as expenses occur.
The impact of these grants is far-reaching, with past examples including SSG funding for mental health counseling services for Naperville youth and a CDBG grant for a roof replacement on a Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA) that provides housing for four adults with severe physical disabilities. The Opioid Remediation Grant has also supported treatment services for people with substance use disorder, while SECA funding has helped fund a full performance season for a Naperville nonprofit theater company.
For more information or questions about the grant programs, interested parties can contact Miranda Barfuss at 630-305-5315 or barfussm@naperville.il.us. The City of Naperville encourages all eligible organizations to attend the workshops and apply for these grants to make a positive impact on the community.
