COMPTON, Calif. - illiNews -- St. John's Community Health, in partnership with the city of Compton, will host the We Are Us Festival on Saturday, June 20th, from noon to 4 p.m. at Lueders Park, 1500 E. Rosecrans Ave., marking the first year Compton will hold a Juneteenth celebration.
The free community event will bring families, residents, artists, health advocates, local organizations, and community leaders together for culture, wellness, resources, and unity. Attendees will find food, games, a resource fair, family giveaways, health and wellness resources, community recognition, and live entertainment throughout the afternoon.
The festival will also offer free diapers, lunch, resources, and giveaways while supplies last. Organizers said the event is designed to celebrate freedom while connecting residents to practical support and services that strengthen families.
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and is recognized as a celebration of freedom, resilience, Black history, and the ongoing work toward equity. For St. John's Community Health, the celebration is also an opportunity to highlight the connection between cultural pride, community wellness, and health equity.

"A thriving community is built when neighbors become family, resources become opportunities, and every person feels supported," said Keveon Lewis, founder of El Seven Inc. "Events like the We Are Us Festival remind us that together, we are stronger."
The program will open with a welcome and Juneteenth history acknowledgment led by the master of ceremonies, followed by an invocation or libation ceremony. The event will feature youth and cultural performances, including drumline, dance, spoken word, poetry, live music, and additional performance blocks celebrating the community's creativity and legacy.
St. John's Community Health leadership will provide remarks on the organization's mission, services, and commitment to health equity. The festival will also feature a community speaker or keynote, lunch, and a vendor hour with a DJ set, health screening engagement led by community health workers, and a community recognition segment honoring people and organizations making a difference in Compton.
Through the event, organizers hope to make resources easier to access by placing health information, family support, food, entertainment, and trusted community partners in one welcoming public space. The festival reflects a broader commitment to meeting residents where they are and creating moments of belonging, celebration, and connection for all generations in Compton.
