Icarus Atlas renders real-time terrain from space on a zero-install IFE system starting at $24,900 — a fraction of installed alternatives
CHICAGO - illiNews -- Icarus IFE Systems LLC today announced Icarus Atlas™, a real-time 3D satellite terrain flight map built into its portable Icarus One™ in-flight entertainment system. Atlas renders actual satellite topography under the aircraft's live GPS position, giving passengers a visual experience previously unavailable outside permanently installed IFE systems costing $100,000 to $500,000 or more.
Icarus Atlas™ operates entirely offline with no internet connection, no aircraft modification, and no Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) required. The Icarus One™ system deploys in under one hour, serves up to 500 passengers simultaneously over its own local Wi-Fi network, and is covered by U.S. Patent No. 10,193,945 for portable in-flight entertainment with integrated flight tracking.

The flight map offers five camera perspectives — chase, cockpit, right window, left window, and free look — allowing passengers to explore terrain as the aircraft flies over it. Points of interest appear automatically as the aircraft passes landmarks, cities, and geographic features. All terrain data, satellite imagery, and 3D aircraft models are stored locally on the system. Flight position is derived from integrated GPS.
The Icarus One™ system also includes Anna VFA™, an AI virtual flight attendant that communicates in over 30 languages without requiring internet connectivity. Together, Atlas and Anna represent a category of portable IFE where the passenger experience rivals installed systems at a fraction of the cost and complexity.
"Passengers carry phones with Google Earth in their pockets, then board an aircraft and see a 2D dot crawling across a flat map," said Robert T. Valentine, Founder and President of Icarus IFE Systems LLC. "Installed IFE providers charge hundreds of thousands of dollars to change that, plus months of downtime for aircraft modification. We built a system that delivers a better map experience out of the box — portable, offline, deployed in under an hour."
