NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - On the morning of February 19th, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a 911 call reporting a fire in a trash compactor behind Savers at 1125 E. Ogden Ave. Shortly after, the ECC also received a fire alarm activation from the same location. In response, a full still assignment was dispatched to the scene, including two engines, one ladder truck, two battalion commanders, and one ambulance.
The first crew arrived at 9:10 a.m. and observed smoke coming from a large commercial trash compactor measuring between 60-80 yards. Due to its close proximity to the building, the alarm was upgraded to a general alarm response. This prompted an additional engine company, ladder company, squad company, and one medic unit to be dispatched.
Upon arrival, crews quickly deployed handlines and were able to contain the fire damage to the trash compactor itself. Fortunately, no damage was sustained inside the structure as a result of the fire. The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes of the crew's arrival on scene. However, due to the large amount of content in the trash compactor, extensive overhaul operations were necessary to fully extinguish any remaining embers.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported during this incident. The Naperville Police Department, Naperville Transportation Engineering and Development (TED), and Naperville Public Works all provided assistance on scene. The estimated cost of damages is approximately $8,000 and it has been determined that the cause of the fire was unintentional in nature.
After thorough inspection by TED officials, it was deemed that the building was still habitable and management was able to resume control of the property once all necessary measures were taken by responding crews. The prompt response and efficient actions taken by emergency personnel helped prevent any further damage or injuries from occurring during this incident.
