~ Naperville Fire Department to Host Fire Prevention Presentation
The Naperville Fire Department is taking proactive measures to educate citizens about fire safety. In light of the recent increase in structure fires in the area, the department will be hosting a fire prevention presentation on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m.
The presentation, which will take place in Council Chambers at the Naperville Municipal Center, aims to inform residents about the causes of these fires and how they can protect their families and property. This event is free and open to the public.
According to reports, the Naperville Fire Department responded to 40 confirmed structure fires in 2024. In an effort to prevent future incidents, fire department officials will be examining both local and national causes of these fires. By doing so, they hope to raise awareness about potential fire hazards and unsafe conditions or behaviors.

In addition to discussing fire prevention strategies, speakers at the presentation will also provide information about programs offered by the Naperville Fire Department that can support residents' efforts in preventing fires. They will also cover topics such as proper maintenance for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as creating a home escape plan in case of a fire.
Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis emphasized the importance of using past incidents to prevent future ones. "We want residents to use what we know about past fires to help prevent future ones," he stated. "Our hope is that residents will take what they learn at this presentation, survey their homes and places of work, and then implement changes that will help prevent fire."
This informative presentation is a valuable opportunity for citizens to learn how they can play an active role in keeping their homes and community safe from potential fire hazards. The Naperville Fire Department encourages all residents to attend and take steps towards preventing fires.
