NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 3:16 AM on Monday (4/19/2021), Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call on the 1700 block of Roberts Lane for a smoke investigation inside to a 2-story, wood framed, single-family residential structure.
Naperville 911 (PSAP) dispatched a Full Still assignment consisting of two engines, one ladder truck, one medic unit, and two battalion commanders. Engine 6 arrived on scene at 3:23 AM and found heavy smoke on the first floor and immediately upgraded to a general alarm response, which brought an additional engine, truck, squad, and medic to the scene. E6 established Incident command and a 360-degree survey of the home was completed, E6 found heavy fire on the rear of the home. Crews on scene were able to confirm all occupants were out of the building at the time of NFD arrival.
Fire companies utilized a transitional fire attack to darken down the fire on the outside and then advance inside the home to extinguish the remainder of the fire. Crews on scene began overhaul and found fire inside the floor joists between the first floor and the basement. The remainder of the fire was extinguished, and crews began to check for any extension of the fire and work to salvage property of the home. Primary and secondary searches were conducted, and no additional occupants were found.

The fire was brought under control within in 20 minutes of crew arrival. All 3 adult occupants were able to evacuate the home on their own prior to arrival of the fire department, they were alerted to the smoke and fire by the home smoke detectors.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development team was notified. Station Coverage was provided by
the Oswego Fire Protection District, and the Plainfield Fire Protection District. The cause is fire was found to be improperly discarded smoking materials. There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. The home was deemed uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development Team.
