Naperville: Structure Fire in the 1600 Block of Ishnala Drive

NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ At 5:43 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a notification about an activated fire alarm in a multifamily building located in the 1600 block of Ishnala Drive. In response, Naperville 911 dispatched a dual response assignment consisting of one engine and one squad. Upon arrival, crews encountered moderate smoke on the third floor and upgraded the alarm, calling for an additional eight pieces of fire apparatus.

Crews discovered a large volume of fire in unit 204 and began an interior attack to extinguish it while coordinating the evacuation of the residents. At 5:59 a.m., the fire was deemed under control and crews remained on the scene for another 60 minutes extinguishing hot spots and assisting residents. The blaze was contained to unit 204 and the attic space directly above it.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted by the Naperville Police and Electric departments during this incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. The occupant of unit 204 was not at home at the time of the fire and it has been deemed uninhabitable with an estimated $200,000 in damages caused by the blaze.
