The event starts with partner organization Oak Street Health where community organizations throughout Chicagoland provide community residents with education-based activities including, but not limited to, traffic mapping projects that show how to stay safe while traveling, bike repair and maintenance training to promote entrepreneurship in the field of cycle repair and maintenance, free helmets will be distributed and fittings for youth, food demonstrations that provide healthy alternatives to everyday eating habits, mental health and wellness checks provided and various other resources to ensure the health and wellness of community residents. These activities are followed by a bike giveaway for youth with new and refurbished bikes that have been donated by individuals and organizations. Free bike rentals are also available through partnership with Divvy to provide options for adults without proper cycling available to them. At 8:00PM after safety checks are conducted we will proceed on an 8 mile bike tour through the historic Englewood community. This bike tour explores the Englewood community through a lens of pride and resilience as we visit historic locations including the Chicago Fire Department Engine Company 84 building and Ogden Park. The tour welcomes back participants with food, fun and music in a healing space.
