Celebrating Bellwood Roots with Full-Circle Return to Maywood

CHICAGO - illiNews -- BELLWOOD, IL — Rising actress Zaria Imani Primer celebrates a major career milestone as she completes her role as Lynae in the final 8th season of The Chi, the longest-running Black drama series in television history, on Paramount+. After six impactful seasons, Primer's journey reflects both her artistic growth and the lasting influence of the communities that shaped her.

Though no longer a Bellwood resident, Primer proudly recognizes the Village as a foundational part of her story. She attended Living Word Christian Academy for her primary grades, where her academic and creative interests were first nurtured. Beyond the classroom, she was an active participant in Bellwood community life—regularly utilizing the Bellwood Public Library, engaging in youth programs, and building confidence through mentorship at the Boys & Girls Club of Bellwood.

Her artistic development expanded across multiple disciplines early on. Primer studied drama and piano at Maywood Fine Arts and gained recognition as a two-time winner of the Proviso Idol singing competition. She further refined her performance skills through formal dance training at Stairway of the Stars in Maywood under Executive Director Lois Baumann, developing the discipline and stage presence that would carry into her professional career.

Music and vocal performance also played a central role in her growth. Primer participated in children's choirs at Rock of Ages Baptist Church and Living Word Christian Center, where she also received vocal training under Dr. Linda Morgan. She continued her musical and academic development through school choirs at Living Word Christian Academy and later at Providence St. Mel (Chicago), where she attended from 6th through 12th grade.

As The Chi reaches its highly anticipated conclusion, production established its basecamp in Maywood, Illinois—marking a powerful full-circle moment for Primer, who began her formal arts training there.
