CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, along with the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) and City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), announced a new partnership today aimed at expanding the benefits of the BACP Entrepreneur Certificate Program. This program is designed to increase public access to business education for both current and aspiring business owners, as well as students.

Mayor Johnson emphasized the importance of supporting entrepreneurs and businesses in the city, stating, "Chicago's entrepreneurs and businesses are the backbone of our city, and we must ensure they have the tools to succeed." He believes that this partnership will strengthen aspiring and existing business owners by providing them with knowledge and college credit that can support their long-term success. By investing in people's potential, he believes they are also investing in Chicago's local economy.

The BACP Entrepreneur Certificate Program offers an opportunity for individuals to gain formal recognition for the skills and knowledge they have developed through real-world experience. This also allows them to earn college credit for Business 111, a foundational course in business principles at City Colleges of Chicago. The program is designed to help participants develop key business skills such as financial literacy, marketing, and business compliance. This new partnership builds upon the success of the BACP Entrepreneur Certificate Program, which has seen over 1,000 Chicago entrepreneurs and business owners successfully complete the program. The process is simple: participants must register for the program at Chicago.gov/BACPCertificate, attend six webinars within six months in designated categories, and then graduate from the program. Within a week of attending the final webinar, a certificate will be made available.

After completing the BACP program, participants have the opportunity to receive Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) from City Colleges of Chicago if they are current students or applicants. To do so, they must provide proof of completion of the Certificate Program, complete the CPL Consent Form, and pass the Institutional Challenge Exam for BUS 111, which can be taken digitally at Olive Harvey College. Please note that an administrative fee will be applied at the time of the exam.

BACP Commissioner Ivan Capifali expressed his excitement about this partnership, stating, "The expansion of BACP's long-standing Entrepreneur Certificate Program marks a significant investment in the future of our business owners and communities." He believes that this partnership will provide broader accessibility to valuable tools and knowledge and highlights the city-wide support available for businesses.

Chancellor Juan Salgado of City Colleges of Chicago also shared his enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, "This partnership reflects our deep commitment to empowering Chicago's entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed." He believes that by recognizing the value of real-world learning through the BACP Entrepreneur Certificate Program, they are opening more doors for aspiring business owners to access college credit and continue their education.

It is important to note that individuals who have already completed the BACP Entrepreneur Certificate Program will also have the opportunity to receive CCC CPL retroactively. In 2024, BACP redesigned the program to make it easier, quicker, and more efficient to complete. As part of this redesign, a new program portal was created that gives participants full access to their progress and completion details.
