Naperville: Structure Fire in the 300 Block of Julian Street

NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ At 12 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call for a structure fire in a three-story, single-family home located in the 300 Block of Julian Street. In response, Naperville 911 dispatched 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel including an incident commander and incident safety officer to the reported address.

Upon arrival at 12:04 a.m., Naperville Engine 1 found smoke showing from the residence with fire in the wall of the chimney on the first floor. Fire companies ensured all residents were out of the home and quickly stretched several hose lines to contain the fire. During an interior search, fire was also found in the basement of the residence. At 1:04 a.m., Battalion 1 declared it under control. Fire companies remained on scene for another hour to ensure all hot spots were extinguished.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted by Plainfield Fire Department, Westmont Fire Department, and Bolingbrook Fire Department for station coverage as well as Naperville Police; Naperville Emergency Management (NEMA); Naperville Electric; the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) department; and Nicor who also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation with no injuries reported to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. The building was deemed uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team with estimated damages amounting to $150,000.
