OAK BROOK, Ill. - illiNews -- OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL – The Oakbrook Terrace Park District (www.obtpd.org) is pleased to celebrate the opening of the renovated Terrace View Park playground with a community event on Saturday, July 27 at 10:00am. The event will take place at 17W063 Hodges Road in Oakbrook Terrace and will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with remarks from Brad Berkshire, Vice President of the Board of Park Commissioners, and Shannon Elsey, Executive Director of the Park District. Following the ceremony from 11:00am-2:00pm, the Lake View Nature Center, which is adjacent to the playground, will host a free open house, and the Fitness Center at 1 Parkview Plaza will offer free pickleball play.
"The Board of Park Commissioners has been focusing on the beautification of our parks and open spaces," said Roger Sweitzer, President of the Board of Park Commissioners. "This playground adds to the beautification and value of Terrace View Park."
The playground at Terrace View Park was originally constructed in the early 2000s. The playground was past its useful life and in need of an update with more modern and accessible amenities.

The new playground features a large play structure with umbrella coverage that incorporates climbing, sliding, and balancing components. The playground also includes a large bay of swings with a variety of swing styles, including traditional swings, a face-to-face swing, and an accessible bucket swing. Accessible features include a poured-in-place rubber surface, accessible ground components such as an OmniSpin spinner, and accessible curb cuts to a new sidewalk in the Terrace View Park parking lot.
"We are thrilled with the new playground and are excited for the community to see everything it has to offer," said Elsey. "The diverse play structures, generous shade coverage, and accessible features truly make it a place for everyone to enjoy."
About the Oakbrook Terrace Park District: The Oakbrook Terrace Park District was established in 1963 to serve the local community in seeking recreational and leisure opportunities that are not only a right but a necessity to the welfare of the general public. The Park District is overseen by a Board of Commissioners, which consists of five individuals elected by the community to represent the community's best interests. The Park District believes in the ongoing process of providing recreational services for individuals with special needs through the Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA).
