~ On the evening of October 23, 2024, emergency personnel from the Naperville Police Department and Naperville Fire Department were called to the intersection of South Naper Boulevard and Hobson Road for a serious traffic accident. According to initial reports, one of the vehicles involved had ended up in a nearby pond.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:01 p.m. and involved a 2020 Nissan Kicks driven by Sarah A. Jelgerhuis, a 35-year-old woman from Wheaton. Ms. Jelgerhuis was making a left turn from southbound Naper Boulevard onto eastbound Hobson Road when her vehicle was struck by a 2023 Ford Bronco driven by a 17-year-old female from Naperville who was traveling northbound on Naper Boulevard.

The impact caused the Nissan to come to rest north of the intersection, partially submerged in the pond. Tragically, Ms. Jelgerhuis succumbed to her injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
In response to the severity of the crash, investigators and reconstruction specialists from the Naperville Police Department's Traffic Unit were called to the scene. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Traffic Unit at (630) 420-8833.
At this time, no further details have been released regarding the cause of the crash or any potential charges against the teenage driver involved. The community is urged to use caution when driving in this area as authorities continue their investigation into this tragic event.
